Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) Incorporates in Geneva, Appoints New Members & Co-Hosts Meeting In European Parliament
GENEVA, Switzerland — October 18, 2017 — The Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) finalized incorporation in Geneva, Switzerland, a global center for international cooperation, added ten new founding members from nine different countries and co-hosts packed meeting in the European Parliament in Brussels with Global Blockchain Parliamentary leader Eva Kaili.
“The GBBC was born out of great necessity for an established collective global body with a clear mission — to educate and advocate to the world’s key decision makers for Blockchain technology understanding and adoption,” said Jamie Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the GBBC. “It is my great honor to be the GBBC CEO and work 24/7 to harness Blockchain technology so that data integrity, advanced cyber security and higher-functioning systems are no longer a wish — but a reality. We are deeply honored to co-host such an important meeting at the European Parliament with the esteemed Eva Kaili, a Member of European Parliament representing Greece”.
Eva Kaili echoed these sentiments, saying “I am honored to co-host an event with the Global Blockchain Business Council in the European Parliament on the potential of Blockchain technology. Forums like this pave the way for comprehensive collaboration between the private sector and regulators that will enable innovative platforms and smart solutions to be developed — maximizing the potential that Blockchain technologies can offer. This is the start of a dialogue that can only benefit the sector.”
By incorporating in Geneva, the GBBC positions itself among a notable cadre of international organizations working to unite global causes and industries, including the World Economic Forum (WEF), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and other international bodies.
Tomicah Tillemann, GBBC Chairman, spoke to the decision to house the Council in Geneva. “Geneva has a long history as a place where people come together to reach consensus” he said. “The city is already home to some of the world’s most important and effective international institutions. The GBBC is proud to join that community as we work to advance the use of Blockchain technology worldwide.”
KEY BACKGROUND ON THE GBBC
Since it launched in January during the Annual World Economic Forum Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, the GBBC has expanded its global reach. After announcing its roster of founding members and opening its U.S. chapter in Washington, D.C. this spring, the GBBC launched a China chapter with conferences in Beijing and Shanghai. In May, the Council hosted the first-ever Blockchain gathering during the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska. Today the GBBC co-hosted an event in Brussels on EU engagement with Blockchain in the European Parliament. The organization is planning another showcase in Davos this January and has over a dozen additional international events planned for 2018.
Conceived in 2016 on Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island by the participants of the Annual Bitfury Blockchain Summit, the GBBC is dedicated to furthering adoption of Blockchain technology through engaging and educating business leaders, regulators, and global change-makers on how to harness this groundbreaking tool to create more secure, equitable, and functional societies. The GBBC brings together founding members from more than 30 countries to advance global understanding of Blockchain technology.
